Fresh Plantains- Product Specification


Product Name:
Fresh Plantains (Musa paradisiaca) – Green or Ripe

Varieties Available:
– Native Salvadoran varieties selected for firmness, flavor, and export-grade size
– Available in both green (verdes) and ripe (maduros) stages

Origin:
Grown in El Salvador, primarily in the regions of La Libertad, Sonsonate, and San Vicente, in nutrient-rich volcanic soil

– Whole fresh green plantains
– Whole fresh ripe plantains (maduros)
– Unbrushed or brushed, depending on market requirement

Harvest & Handling:

– Hand-harvested at optimal maturity
– Carefully selected for export based on size, ripeness, and visual quality
– Washed and sorted at collection centers
– Packed in ventilated corrugated cartons to preserve freshness during transport

Packaging Options:

– 40 lb (18.14 kg) corrugated boxes (standard)
– Custom labeling and packaging available upon request

Shelf Life:

– Green: Up to 4 weeks under ideal refrigerated conditions (13–15°C)
– Ripe: 7–10 days, depending on ripeness level at packing

Certifications:

– FSMA-Compliant handling and post-harvest process
– Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) at the farm level
– Phytosanitary certification for export
– Traceability available upon request

Storage & Transport:

– Green plantains: best transported at 13–15°C
– Ripe plantains: should be shipped at 10–12°C to slow over-ripening
– Containerized sea or air freight depending on destination
– Protection from direct sunlight and excess humidity is required

Minimum Order Quantity:

– 1 pallet (trial shipment)
– Full container load for wholesale pricing
